Lumiere 12 – 15 November 2009
Client: Artichoke
A four-day light festival in the City of Durham attracted over 75,000 visitors. It brought together more than 50 artists to create a breathtaking series of installations, illuminations and performances using light.
Associate Producer - DGB Events played a significant role is delivering this award-winning event (Best Event Durham – The Journal Cultural Awards) including programming, architectural lighting design, health and safety, production, logistics, events management and liaison with key partners including the University, Local Authority, Environment Agency and the Police.
Equinox, Barnard Castle 27 March 2010
Client: Barnard Castle Vision
A launch event to celebrate the castle’s new floodlighting. This evening event provided maximum impact using a mixture of creative lighting and community involvement cleverly blended with the town’s historical past.
Event Director – DGB Events delivered this event from concept to realisation, including creative visualisation, safety, production to event management and delivery. The event was designed to bring together key themes including light, rebirth, economic regeneration and the interaction of the local community. The event including spectacular lights and atmospheric effects including a visit from one of Barnard Castle’s historic figures and community involvement with a children’s craft lantern workshop using a local artist.
Illuminating Hadrian’s Wall 13 March 2010
Client: Flux Events for Hadrian’s Wall Heritage Ltd
The first time that the full length of Hadrian’s Wall has been illuminated in more than 1,600 years this will be one of the most ambitious events in the UK in 2010. The event included theatre performances and fireworks plus the help of over 500 volunteers to light the route along its 84-miles from coast to coast.
DGB Events played a key role in this event at the starting venue of Segedunum, where the celebrations commenced with a theatre performance and spectacular fireworks, beginning the hour long illumination of the wall finishing in Carlisle. DGB events role included safety management, and logistics planning and delivery, including booking specialist kit right across the country. This cross-country event included: 520 points of light; 1200 illuminators; 250 burners; 500 torches; 500 flares; 30 coaches; 15 vans, with over 5,000 visitors at Segedunum alone.
Maker Faire 13 – 14 March 2010
Client: Science Festival – Centre for Life
Maker Faire (part of the 10 day Newcastle Science Festival) is the UK’s first exhibition for gizmos and gadgets - from James Bond-worthy electronic devices to homemade clothes. At Maker Faire visitors are invited to meet and enjoy hands on experiences direct with the exhibitors, which include anything from new technology to art, science, fashion, engineering and crafts.
Production Management– DGB Events took a creative eye to this project, changing the concept from a marquee based event in 2009 and bringing it into the Centre for Life. DGB Events provided expertise and advice on people movement and changed the main entry point, giving visitors and organisers a new way to use and view the event space in Centre for Life. As well as creative and design development, DGB Events delivered risk assessments, logistics, build/electrics and event management on the day as well as supporting city centre street theatre activity including a hula-hoop stage. This is the 2nd year running DGB Events have been involved in this event.
The Game
Client: North Lights Film Festival
An outdoor treasure-hunt around Newcastle City Centre solving puzzles. This evening challenge was part of the North Lights Film Festival 2010.
DGB Events provided project advice and consultancy for this project, including permissions and contacts including the Police.
